Last September, we welcomed 115 students from over 25 countries around the world to the 4th edition of the Fishbowl Challenge. 6 months of intense competition, 2 selection rounds and numerous idea iterations later, 5 teams were selected to compete in the finals. The prize? Up to USD 50,000 in seed funding distributed across winning teams to develop their ventures even further!

THE 2023 FINALISTS

Team Aquaroots have designed a solution to reduce food scarcity & food waste in developing nations while also reducing water-waste, agricultural land space, overfishing, and by-catch.
By building a small-scale media-based aqauaponics systems with built in food storage facility and composting for food waste.

Team Cassavity utilizes Cassava raw material to produce flour for making nutritious bread and other bakery products. This initiative is an imported flour substitution mechanism intended to ensure food sufficiency amidst the rising cost of imported wheat flour. It also provides a ready market for Cassava farmers and creating employment for young people through the sale of products.

Team Neptune International has developed a water treatment system for individuals or households that lack access to safe drinking water. The system works regardless of access to electricity.
It is portable, simple to operate, affordable, durable, reliable and accessible in difficult to reach areas.

Team No Box is bridging the knowledge, experience, and employment gap of STEM enthusiasts, professionals, employees and employers.
No Box is working to simplify interactions for STEM professionals in Africa by providing a trusted platform for learning, mentorship and recruitment.

Team Scaregrow, is working on an app that uses machine learning (AI vision technology) and drone technology to analyze crops and give farmers an idea of the problems their crops might be facing. The technology will be instrumental in the prevention of food waste, thereby improving farmers income and economic growth.
